What i'm Happy About Today
Hey y'all,
As this August is turning out to be the longest month of my LIFE, I just wanted to share a few things that are getting me through the day right now.
1. The first wave of Halloween candy is out in stores! That means autumn is on the way, and with it, a relief from the Oklahoma summer. Not to mention autumn leaves, scary movies, my birthday, and Brach's Candy Corn, my own personal brand of crack!

2. It’s Wednesday afternoon. That means I’m almost over the midpoint of the endless Bataan Death March that is my workweek. Hooray!!
3. A mere 17 days are left until the College Football season kicks off. Not that i'm excited or anything!

4. My latest career daydream, wooden kayak building. Yes I know that i've never done any woodworking & can barely hammer a nail--but it’s like quilting, with wood and glue! Nothing to while away endless hours in front of a computer like videos of wooden boat building. I am soooo smitten! (See Chesapeake Night Heron kayak built from kit below).

5. The sweet anticipation of going to visit my mom in September. Hang out in Seattle, go to the beach, & enjoy a break from the Midwestern summer heat. Can’t WAIT!!!

6. And best of all, the kids go back to school TOMORROW! The first day of school should be a national holiday & day of rest for parents everywhere. Join me in doing a virtual high-five now--we got them through another summer! YEAH!!
Of course I’m always grateful for things like good health, family & friends, etc etc. That goes without saying. Sometimes though, I need to remind myself of what is good in my life right here and NOW. And I would love to hear what’s on your list! Please leave it in the comments!

I think you meant to say about the candy "my own personal brand of Heroin"...at lease that is what Edward said :-)
I had not even seen any Halloween candy yet but we will have to go find some when you are here.
Hopefully we can go to VooDoo Donuts in Portland. I really think I need to try the Maple Bar with Bacon !!
I have said it before and I will say it again....your stories and writing is wonderful. You really need to meditate on how you can use that talent to make $$. You are so gifted and I really think if you found you nitch, you would be really happy.
Oh yeah, while you are meditating...ask the cosmos if they know where I hid my safe deposit key :)
Thanks for this post - it's a great idea to remember the things we're really happy about. I love winter so fall is a great season for me. I love the changing of the trees, cooler breeze, and hey that candy corn halloween candy looks great too. I've never been one to dress up for halloween much, but this has been a year of trying new things for me, so I'm already planning my outfit.

I forgot to say in my previous comment that I'm grateful for good health too. No matter how bad a day can be, it is always good to find something to be thankful for!
